International flights can be long and tedious for everyone. Multiple hours in a small space, noisy people around you, and a lack of good food can really test your patience. Luckily international flights don’t have to be uncomfortable. Here are a few tips to make your trip pleasant.

Stay Hydrated – One of the most challenging parts of an international flight is staying hydrated because it causes the body to dehydrate. Pack an empty water bottle in your carry on and fill it up once you get through security. It’s also crucial to avoid anything that could dehydrate you further. Stay away from highly caffeinated products like coffee and energy drinks it will make you irritable and jittery.

Bring Snacks – Let’s face it, the provided in-flight meals might not be the best so you should bring a few snacks just in case. You can bring food through security that is unopened, saving you from having to purchase expensive airport snacks. Just to be safe, check the security guidelines before arriving at the airport to ensure that all of your snacks meet required regulations. Another great trick is to request a specialty meal when you book your flight.

Wear Comfy Clothes – Comfort is key for long flights! The last thing you’ll want to worry about is how uncomfortable your outfit is making you feel mid-flight. Loose fitting clothing will help you relax and settle in. Temperatures may fluctuate in the cabin so wearing layers is also a good idea.

Entertainment – Charge up your devices and pre-download any movies, audiobooks, or podcasts to keep you occupied. There might be in-flight movies provided but, they may not appeal to you. Make sure to pack noise canceling headphones so can easily hear your entertainment.

Stretches and Exercises – If you want to avoid stiffness later on stretching and basic exercises are perfect. Keep mobile by twisting your torso while seated and stretching your neck in a circular motion. When you’re able to, get out of your seat and walk to the bathroom; this will keep the blood flowing in your legs.

Long flights can be unpleasant, but, if you remember the tricks above you’ll be a little bit more comfortable.
